Terms of Service

Last updated 3 August 2026

These are the rules for using LockIn. They are a contract between you and us, so they have to be precise — but they are written to be read, in plain English, without the padding.

Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Musa Majid, an individual trading as LockIn in England and Wales. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Musa Majid, and “you” means you.

By creating an account or using LockIn, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use LockIn.

You must be at least 16 years old to use LockIn. If you are younger than that, you may not create an account, and we will delete any account we find that belongs to someone under 16.

Blocking only happens on your iPhone. It has to — it runs on Apple's Screen Time, which lives on the phone and nowhere else. You can also sign in to the dashboard on this website to start a session and follow your stats from a computer, but the blocking itself is always your phone's job. LockIn is not available on Android, and nothing here promises that it ever will be.

Your account

You need an account to use LockIn. One account belongs to one person — do not share it, and do not sign in on behalf of somebody else. You are responsible for what happens on your account, including keeping your sign-in details to yourself. If you think someone else has got into your account, email support@musa.codes.

Give us details that are true. If your email address stops working we may not be able to reach you about your account.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — for harassing other people, for abusing the service, or for trying to break it. Where it is fair to do so we will warn you first and tell you why, but we do not have to when the abuse is serious or ongoing.

What LockIn does and does not promise

LockIn is a focus tool. It helps you commit to a block of time and makes it harder to slip out of it. It is not a guarantee that you will focus, and we do not promise any particular result.

Blocking works through Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls), and only after you grant that permission on your iPhone. That means two honest things follow:

  • Blocking is only as reliable as Apple's system. If Screen Time misbehaves, if you revoke the permission, or if Apple changes how the frameworks work, blocking can stop working. We depend on it and we do not control it.
  • A determined person can get around it. LockIn raises the friction between you and a distracting app. It is not a security product, and we do not claim it cannot be circumvented — because it can be.

The emergency override is always available, on purpose. If you need out of a locked session, you wait 30 seconds and your phone unlocks. Your partner is told that you overrode it — that is the whole of the consequence. LockIn will never hard-lock you out of your own phone, and there is no setting, plan or session type that removes the override.

We also do not promise the service will always be up. We may change features, take features away, or stop offering LockInaltogether. If we shut it down we will give you reasonable notice and time to get your data out.

You are responsible for your own commitments, not us. We are not liable for a deadline you missed, an exam that went badly, a call you did not get, or anything else you were meant to be doing while your phone was locked or unlocked. Do not use LockIn to block anything you may urgently need — and remember the override is there.

Friend and group sessions

A friend or group member can only lock your phone after you have explicitly accepted their invite. Never before. Accepting is a deliberate action you take yourself; it is not implied by being someone's friend, by being in a group, or by having accepted before. Decline an invite and nothing happens to your phone.

Accepting one session gives your partner control over nothing except that session. They cannot start a new one without another accept, and they cannot see anything beyond the fact that you are locked in, how long the session is, and whether you used an override. The Privacy Policy sets that out in full.

You can always override, and you never lose that. The 30-second emergency override applies to friend and group sessions exactly as it does to solo ones. Your partner is notified — nothing else.

Do not use LockIn to control or coerce anyone. Pressuring somebody into accepting a session, using the override notification to punish or shame them, or using the app to monitor a partner or child against their will are all misuses of it, and we will close accounts for them. If someone is using LockIn to control you, remove them as a friend, use the override whenever you want to, and email support@musa.codes.

Subscriptions

These are the subscription terms for LockIn Plus. The same terms are on our pricing page, and they say the same thing.

The app itself is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement — the one you agree to with Apple when you download an app from the App Store. These terms are something separate: they cover the LockIn service — your account, your sessions, your posts and your subscription — rather than the software licence.

LockIn is not on the App Store yet, so subscriptions are not on sale. Nothing here is an offer to sell you anything today. This section describes the terms that will apply when LockIn Plus goes on sale.

LockIn is free to use for solo focus sessions, with no time limit — solo blocking, your stats and your streaks cost nothing. LockIn Plus is the paid plan, and it adds friend sessions, group sessions, partner locking and the social feed.

  • Price and period. LockIn Plus costs £3.99 per year.
  • Who bills you. Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely through the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. We never see or hold your payment details.
  • Automatic renewal. The subscription renews automatically for the same £3.99 per year price unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • How to cancel. Manage or cancel at any time on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep LockIn Plus until the end of the period you have already paid for. We cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf.
  • Refunds are Apple's to give. We do not process refunds and cannot issue one. Refund requests are handled by Apple under their terms.
  • Price changes. If we ever change the price, Apple will tell you before it applies to a renewal, and where their rules require it they will ask you to agree. You can cancel instead.

While your subscription is active, LockIn Plus is yours to use personally — in the app on your iPhone and in the dashboard on this website, on devices you own or control. It goes with your account, so do not share it between accounts or resell it. If your subscription ends, the paid features stop and the free ones carry on.

Acceptable use

These are the things you must not do with LockIn:

  • No harassment. Do not use the feed, your display name, session invites or reactions to bully, threaten, harass or abuse anyone.
  • Nothing illegal. Do not use LockIn to break the law, or to post anything unlawful.
  • No automated access. Do not scrape the service, and do not use bots, scripts or any automated system to access it — use the app or the dashboard like a person would.
  • No reverse engineering. Do not decompile, disassemble, modify or attempt to derive the source code of the app or the website, except where the law gives you that right despite this term.
  • Do not attack the service. No attempts to break our security, get into accounts that are not yours, get around usage limits, or overload our systems.
  • No impersonation or spam. Do not pretend to be someone else, and do not send unsolicited invites or messages in bulk.

User content

When you share a finished session you can add a message of up to 280 characters. That post is yours. You own it, and these terms do not take any ownership of it from you.

You give us a licence to store your posts and show them to the friends you shared them with, and to make the copies needed to do that — hosting it, backing it up, and delivering it to their phones. The licence is limited to running LockIn. We do not use your posts for advertising, we do not sell them, and we do not show them to anyone outside your accepted friends. The licence ends when you delete the post or your account, except for copies sitting in routine backups until they age out.

You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to post it. We can remove content that breaks these terms and, for serious or repeated breaches, close the account behind it.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time, in the app under Settings or from our account deletion page. You do not need to ask us and you do not need a reason.

Deletion removes your account record, your block list, your notifications, your friendships, your friend codes, the sessions you created, your posts and reactions, your public name and photo, and your sign-in itself. Sessions that somebody else created stay with them, with you taken out. It is permanent and cannot be undone. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what goes and what is kept.

Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Apple bills it, so you have to cancel it yourself in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or it will keep renewing.

We can suspend or close your account if you break these terms, or if we stop offering the service. If we close your account for something other than a breach by you, we will give you reasonable notice.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law of England and Wales does not allow us to limit. That comes first, and the rest of this section is read subject to it.

Beyond that, and as far as the law of England and Wales allows: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit, lost opportunity or lost data, or for anything you missed while using the app — a deadline, an exam, a message, a call. We are not liable for failures in Apple's Screen Time or any other part of your phone that we do not control.

Where we are liable, our total liability to you is capped at whatever you paid us in the 12 months before the claim — which for a free account is nothing, and for LockIn Plus is £3.99.

LockIn is provided as it is. Beyond what these terms say, and as far as the law allows, we give no other warranties about it. If you are a consumer, this does not affect your legal rights — you keep every right the law gives you, and nothing here takes them away.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change this page and the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Carrying on using LockIn after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, delete your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you keep the right to bring a claim in your local courts.

Contact

For anything about these terms, your account or the app, email support@musa.codes. For anything about your data, email support@musa.codes instead — it goes to the same place, but it gets handled as a data request.
